Re: Goomba Color 3-31-2008

I love you Dwedit! Is there a legal form I can fill out to sell you my soul? But seriously, I love each and every update you release.

P.S. - GBAtemp already has this on their frontpage!

Seems like the sky is the limit for Dwedit and Goomba Color! I never imagined that the GBA processor could do so much...

Re: Goomba Color 3-31-2008

Is there a technical reason or hardware limitation that keeps Goomba Color from accessing a folder of Roms? Being on a Mac it is difficult to switch to VPC to run the rom insertion utility. I've been having a much easier time with Lameboy for DS but it does not get updated as often as Goomba Color.

Re: Goomba Color 3-31-2008

You can also insert roms with the unix cat command:

cat goomba.gba *.gbc *.gb > goomba_out.gba

well, that IS useful, thank you, however, that doesn't answer my initial question. Please don't take offense, I'm not putting your fine software down at all, I'm just curious if there is a technical or hardware related reason why Goomba can't load games from an accompanying directory on a suitable GBA flash device that would allow for it.?

I'm also wondering if you're planning to port it to the DS to perhaps get some more speed and beef?

at any rate, great work. having GB/GBC games available on my GBA Micro is fabulous.

Hi Dwedit!
I have to say that I LOVE this emulator, and it looks like you work very much on it. Good work, and keep it up =)
Every game I tested runs without a problem! And the speedhacks are great!!!

Are there a chance that we are going to have working savestates in future versions?
Or even a cheat finder? But I think I read somewhere that Flubba once tried to add a cheatfinder in the Official (the black and white one :P) version without success, don't know if it's true or not?!?!?!

THANK YOU VERY MUCH Dwedit for this release!!!

Thanks for another fine release, these just keep getting better.

I don't want to bug you, but since development seems to have picked up again on Goomba Color, I was wondering if you have looked at what it might take to fix the graphics issues with Pokemon Crystal, this is the only game I have which has noticable problems at the moment.

Re: Goomba Color 3-31-2008

Great emulator.  Have been playing the old Gameboy mono Donkey Kong again - previous versions had a few glitches but this one is perfect and has the SGB border - Brilliant!

One slight problem with recent versions is a minor graphical glitch on the old Gameboy mono 'Golf' game.  The golfer is now invisible and so is the pin when you are taking a shot.  Also it appears twice on the rom selection menu which is a problem that has been around for ages. Only seems to be a problem with Golf - strange but true!  It is a great game though so probably deserves to be on twice.

Many thanks for all you hard work.
Cheers,
Rich

Re: Goomba Color 3-31-2008

Your golf sounds like an overdump.  Look at it with a hex editor... If you see an identical copy of the game half-way through the file, then you got an overdump.

Re: Goomba Color 3-31-2008

Thanks alot Dewit! Now I can play my old Pokemon games on my GBA EX-Flash 2. :)

Only one problem...Pokemon Crystal has extremely horrid graphical and sprite issues. The border doesn't seem to load up for that game. Any possibly solution or a fix? :)

But no biggie, a must-have tool for those who don't want to spend big bucks on a GB/GBC to GBA converter for your GBA cartridge. :)

Re: Goomba Color 3-31-2008

Thanks for the latest release - only one problem for me Zelda DX and oracle ages and seasons won't save :(  I switch off the power on my GBA SP and when I switch it back on the saves are not there.  Is this an unavoidable 'feature' of my flash card (ECube 1Gb) or am I doing something wrong?

Don't know much about the ecube, but according to pocketheaven wiki, its rechargeable SRAM battery is supposedly very short lasting.

Re: Goomba Color 3-31-2008

Hi there!

I'm sorry I took so long to get back to you about the VBA-M compatibility issue.

I researched it and traced it back to the time we added blargg's audio core.

I'm sorry that I broke compatibility with your emu, due to this major core change. :(

Re: Goomba Color 3-31-2008

Heya all!
I'm getting this problem as well. I'm using a G6, and it saves without problems for GBA and GB games. Donkey Kong saves Ok with Goomba Color. As does Kirby's Dreamland 2 (both SGB games)... Wario Land 2 and 3 (both GBC games) does -not- keep saves however. Is the problem limited to GBC games only?

Re: Goomba Color 3-31-2008

First try L+R to commit the save, it's only necessary for big save files (32k).
If that doesn't work, I can't help you further.  The world of how different flash cartridges are messed up and don't save correctly is way beyond my jurisdiction.  Find another forum to discuss that kind of stuff.

Finally I can play Super mario land! But pokemon games won't save. As soon as I turn off my gameboy micro, the saved game disappears. I'm using a 256mb EFA-Linker cart, are there problems with running it on this Flash card?

Hi.
I love your software. My problem is that the graphics are messed p for pokemon crystal and Harry potter and the chamber of secrets, both for gbc, have messed up graphics, which ruin the gameplay. Please fix this in your next version.
Thanks.

Re: Goomba Color 3-31-2008

Hey Dwedit!  Thanks again for the updates...

I've tried out Crystalis for GBC using this latest Goomba build.  The intro seems fine but the main graphic is garbled and gameplay seems very laggy.  Just walking around in the first town the graphics seem jumpy and slowed.  I've tried a couple different roms, so it might be a bug to work on for ya.

I'll keep testing others as I get time.

Thanks again!

Dwedit thanks you for your time.  I promise you, for Dwedit, when he gets re-motivated to work on the awsome Goomba Color he will try to be motivated enough to look into that problem.

Dwedit needs more time and patience from you awsome users, now that he has turned 24, he has more responsibilities and less free time for his awsome projects.  He may finally even have enough time to fully understand what that show "24" is truly about.  Look, he doesn't have a team, like MAME Dev does.  So everything is delayed, maybe if you guys used these powerful internets to seduce some MAME Devs to work on Goomba Color that would be awsome.

E.

Re: Goomba Color 3-31-2008

Kinda wondering, by the way... Shantae works without glitches (as are common on many other emulators) but the speed is all wrong. Seems to run at about half speed. Speed hacks make no difference either. The music goes to full speed, but ONLY when there's nothing on the screen, i.e. all black. It just seems very weird to me, since the slowdown seems so consistent. Am I doing something wrong?
